Cultivating Sustainability: Aquaculture and Marine Resource Conservation.
Research activities for the sustainable development of aquaculture and the management of fishery resources focus on innovating production processes for commercially relevant species with high sustainability profiles and their interactions with the coastal marine environment. These activities include the experimental production of marine vertebrate and invertebrate species, as well as selected microalgal strains for industrial and environmental applications.
Studies are centered on farming systems for the production of new species for the aquaculture industry and the active restocking of species at risk and under high fishing pressure. Our research also supports the local aquaculture industry through targeted experiments aimed at improving production practices for traditional aquaculture species. This is achieved by introducing innovations to enhance production efficiency and by transferring new knowledge and technologies to local businesses.
