Abstract
The supeficial area of the Gulf of Oristano was mapped by means of raster image analysis of aerial photogrammetry. The mapping of the Posidonia oceanica (Helobiae, Potamogetonaceae) meadow was integrated by morphostructural measurements and sediment grain size analysis. The final image of the Gulf coastal zone reveals a widespread P. oceanica meadow with clear interruption areas. In these areas, where the upper limit ends suddenly, the meadow shows low shoots density and coverage and the sedimnet characteristics change radically. The regression processes of the meadows seem to depend on the human activities in the Gulf.
