Abstract

The Gulf of Oristano, Sardinia (Italy, western Mediterranean) was affected by a massive
stranding of benthic species, especially sponges and bryozoans, after an exceptional hurricane event.
Stranded taxa involved in this unprecedented phenomenon and their abundances are reported. Possible
explanations are discussed.
